EFCC Secures Forfeiture of Hawker 800XP Jet Tied to $114m NNPC Maiduguri Power Project Fraud

EFCC Secures Forfeiture of Hawker 800XP Jet Tied to $114m NNPC Maiduguri Power Project Fraud

A Federal High Court in Abuja has permanently forfeited a Hawker 800XP private jet to the Federal Government after evidence linked the aircraft to money laundering and corruption in NNPC’s $114 million Maiduguri Emergency Power Project. Justice Emeka Nwite granted the final forfeiture order following an EFCC investigation. The jet, bearing registration 5N-AMK and serial number 258553, was owned by Valiente Jet Limited and is now federal property. The EFCC alleges the aircraft was acquired with funds diverted by Alhaji Abdulsalam Mustapha Kachallah, former Chairman of the Borno State Rural Electrification Board. The decision marks another milestone in efforts to recover assets tied to high-profile corruption cases.

What steps took EFCC from investigating the Maiduguri power project fraud to seizing that Hawker 800XP jet?

Can you clarify what legal basis EFCC used to move from investigating power project fraud to jet seizure?

It's notable that a high-value asset like that jet sat tied to alleged laundering for so long before final court action.

I agree, it's wild that a valuable jet just sat idle for years before any court move.

I wonder if forfeiture really deters future scams or just shifts risk onto other assets in corrupt networks.

We need clearer asset-tracking systems and transparency measures to stop ill-gotten gains from entering civilian markets so easily.
