VAT Contribution vs Allocation: How Nigeria’s Six Geo-Political Zones Fared in H1 2026
In the first half of 2026, Nigeria’s six geo-political zones contributed different amounts to the federal VAT pool and received varying allocations. The South-West led the contributions with ₦2.16 trn but received only ₦691.56 bn (32%). The South-South contributed ₦880.58 bn and got ₦429.99 bn (49%). The North-Central put in ₦302.81 bn and received ₦350.17 bn (116%). Both the North-West and North-East received nearly double their contributions. The South-East contributed the least (₦79.27 bn) but received the highest percentage return (291%).
