Lagos Police Rescue 38 Foreign Nationals, Bust Armed Gang and Seize Weapons

Lagos Police Rescue 38 Foreign Nationals, Bust Armed Gang and Seize Weapons — 1 of 4
1 / 4

The Lagos State Police Command recorded major successes in June. Officers rescued 38 foreign nationals from a mob in Epe and arrested suspected armed robbers, cultists and fake soldiers. The command seized 14 firearms, 80 cartons of suspected illicit substances, military uniforms, stolen cables, multiple mobile phones, vehicle control units and other incriminating items during intelligence-led operations across Lagos. Notable breakthroughs include the arrest of cable vandals on the Third Mainland Bridge, suspects at a church construction site in Ayetoro-Ijanikin and a key member of the “One Chance” robbery syndicate. Stop-and-search teams in Festac Town and patrols in Ilupeju also recovered pistols, ECUs and live cartridges. Of the 38 rescued migrants, 18 held valid ECOWAS documents while 20 lacked legal papers. The matter has been handed to immigration authorities and relevant embassies. The Commissioner urged residents to continue sharing timely and credible information to keep Lagos unsafe for criminals.

It's notable they seized 14 firearms and 80 cartons of illicit substances, but the report gives no details on how these were sourced.

Local communities should set up emergency hotlines and partner with the police to report suspicious activity immediately.
