Rudi Garcia Confident Belgium Can Upset Spain in World Cup Quarter-Final

Rudi Garcia Confident Belgium Can Upset Spain in World Cup Quarter-Final

Belgium head coach Rudi Garcia embraces the underdog tag ahead of Friday’s World Cup quarter-final against European champions Spain. He insists his side has the quality to defy expectations and reach the semi-finals. After topping their group and staging a dramatic comeback against Senegal, Belgium hit top form with a 4-1 win over hosts USA. They have scored 13 goals and taken 107 shots so far, trailing only France and Argentina in attacking stats. Garcia says hostile crowds won’t faze his team. “It’s not the fans that score the goals,” he notes. Striker Romelu Lukaku adds that Belgium didn’t make the quarter-finals just to make up the numbers.

Belgium might focus on high pressing and quick transitions from set pieces to exploit Spain's occasional defensive gaps in this quarter-final tie.
