Why Has Oyo State Never Had a Yoruba First Lady?

Oyo State hasn’t had a Yoruba First Lady in over 30 years. It seems Ibadan women are repeatedly passed over for this role. Is this due to bias against women from Ibadan or a wider agreement to exclude Yoruba candidates? Even those considered for the position now and in the future aren’t Yoruba. Can Ibadan still claim “war has never packed them” when it feels like a “vagina war” is keeping them out of the governor’s lodge?

What factors do you think have led Ibadan women to be overlooked for First Lady roles in Oyo State all these years?

True, traditional norms and political alliances often push local women to the sidelines, even when they have strong merits.

True, e dey curious why women no emerge as First Lady. Maybe age-old traditions and political gatekeeping dey limit their chances.

It's interesting that despite strong female leaders in Ibadan, none has ever reached the First Lady title there for decades.

I'm not convinced this is purely ethnic bias; party politics and candidate rankings probably played a bigger role here.

To address this gap, local activists could push for transparent selection criteria and gender awareness in state party committees.
