Without Credible 2027 Elections, Nigeria Faces Deeper Crisis – CAPPA Warns
Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) urges all levels of government, electoral bodies, and political actors to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy ahead of the 2027 polls. It warns that only free, fair, and inclusive elections can restore public trust and prevent a deeper crisis. CAPPA calls on INEC and security agencies to begin early preparations. It stresses that every vote must count, and citizens must be free from violence, voter suppression, and intimidation. The group decries the influence of money in politics, vote-buying, and opaque party processes. It demands that political parties uphold internal democracy and that the judiciary resist any attempts to subvert the will of the people. CAPPA also highlights the country’s security and economic challenges. It urges a comprehensive, people-centred review of security architecture and transparent, equitable use of public funds to ease hardship and boost confidence in governance.
