Pistol Discovered Inside Loaf of Bread at Port Harcourt Checkpoint

Pistol Discovered Inside Loaf of Bread at Port Harcourt Checkpoint

The Rivers State Police Command arrested a man after officers recovered a Browning pistol ingeniously hidden inside a loaf of bread during a routine checkpoint at Azikiwe Road, Red Cross Junction, Port Harcourt. The suspect, a resident of New Road in Borikiri, was travelling as a passenger when the search revealed the unmarked firearm. He admitted buying the weapon in Okrika for Eight Hundred Thousand Naira. Rivers State Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju warned residents to stay vigilant. He noted that hiding guns in everyday items shows how criminals are adopting more deceptive tactics to evade detection.

It seems almost unbelievable that a standard loaf could conceal a pistol without detection during security checks.

Surely the checkpoint officials should have noted the loaf's weight or shape first before the man even stepped out. That's negligence.

Security forces could scan suspicious packages more thoroughly, maybe use portable metal detectors or random loaf inspections at checkpoints for faster results.
