NAFDAC Alerts Parents to Recalled Children’s Ibuprofen Contaminated with Foreign Particles
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning after the USFDA recalled about 90,000 bottles of Children’s Ibuprofen Oral Suspension. This action follows consumer reports of a gel-like mass and black particles in the medication. The affected suspension is manufactured by Strides Pharma Inc. for Taro Pharmaceuticals. Impacted batches carry lot numbers 7261973A and 7261974A, expiring on January 31, 2027. Although the recall occurred in the U.S., NAFDAC is intensifying surveillance to stop any contaminated stock from entering Nigeria. Zonal directors and state coordinators have been instructed to remove suspect products. Importers, distributors, retailers, healthcare workers, and caregivers must avoid importing, selling, or using the recalled batches and quarantine any units found. Parents should discontinue use immediately and seek medical attention if children exhibit unusual reactions. Adverse events may be reported through NAFDAC’s reporting platforms or at the nearest NAFDAC office.
