Anambra Rolls Out Biannual LEN PrEP Injectable for HIV Prevention
The Anambra State government has begun administering LENACAPAVIR, known as LEN PrEP, a long-acting injectable designed to prevent HIV. The shot is given twice a year and offered free of charge. This initiative is supported by the Global Fund in partnership with national and state HIV control programmes. Residents can access the injection at key hospitals and selected comprehensive health centres across the state. The Commissioner for Health said the programme will focus on prevention to curb new infections, especially among high-risk groups. The teaching hospital’s medical director believes it will help reduce HIV rates, particularly among young people. Anambra has the highest HIV prevalence in the South East at 2.4 percent, with nearly 100,000 residents living with the virus. Hundreds of facilities now provide comprehensive HIV services in the state.
