Lagos Enhances Inclusive HIV Awareness for Persons with Disabilities
The Lagos State Government organised a sensitisation programme on HIV prevention and stigma reduction for persons with hearing and visual impairments. The event, led by the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), brought together members of the disability community, healthcare stakeholders and advocates at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Dr. Folakemi Animashaun, CEO of LSACA, said the initiative reflects the state’s commitment to equal access to quality healthcare and life-saving information. The programme featured presentations on HIV prevention strategies, self-testing demonstrations and guidance on condom use. Participants also learned about their rights in accessing disability-friendly healthcare services and referral procedures for medical and support services. Mr. Kingsley Njoku described the event as timely and impactful, urging the government to continue including persons with disabilities in all health programmes.
