Soludo Vows to Clamp Down on House Agents Charging Extra Fees

Soludo Vows to Clamp Down on House Agents Charging Extra Fees

Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has warned real estate agents who demand additional charges from tenants after they pay the legally stipulated rent. He said reports show some agents still collect fees even after tenants have settled the 10% yearly rent due by law. He described this practice as unacceptable. “House agents in Anambra should get ready. We are coming for you soon,” Soludo said, pledging swift enforcement to protect renters.

Do you think Soludo's threat will actually stop agents from charging unlawful fees, or will they keep finding ways around the law?

It's surprising that agents still demand extra fees after clear legal guidelines. Enforcement has always been the weak link in such policies.

While Soludo's vow sounds promising, similar warnings in the past rarely yielded concrete actions against violators on the ground.

Tenants should keep all payment receipts and report extra fees to authorities sharp sharp, so agents no go collect illegally.
