Arewa Youth Group Alleges EFCC and Media Bias in Malami’s Trial
In a recent statement, the Arewa Youth Progressive Alliance accused the EFCC and some media outlets of pushing a one-sided narrative in the trial of former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, SAN. The group claims key facts from cross-examination were ignored while selective information was amplified to sway public opinion. The AYPA highlighted that a prosecution witness admitted she was not responsible for the Alkausar Farms account and confirmed that none of the defendants or the Ministry of Justice were signatories. The witness also stated no funds flowed between the ministry and the account, contradicting reports linking transactions to Malami. The alliance noted that Alkausar Farms was established in 2008, years before Malami’s tenure, and warned against assuming wrongdoing based on unverified links. It urged the EFCC to communicate professionally and media organisations to uphold balanced reporting. The AYPA stressed that guilt can only be determined in court and cautioned that selective storytelling risks undermining public confidence in both the justice system and the media.
