Kingsley Chinda Dumps PDP for APC, Quits as House Minority Leader

Kingsley Chinda Dumps PDP for APC, Quits as House Minority Leader

On Tuesday, the House Speaker read a letter dated April 23, 2026, announcing Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda’s defection from the PDP to the APC. He also resigned his leadership position immediately after the announcement. Chinda, an ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, recently clinched the APC governorship ticket for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 election. Although he was the sole aspirant after others withdrew, party members still turned out en masse to affirm his candidacy. Several other federal lawmakers left the PDP for the Allied Peoples Movement in Oyo and Bauchi States. Meanwhile, the representative for Okpe/Sapele/Uvwie Federal Constituency in Delta State defected from the Labour Party to the PDP.
