Akpabio Pledges to Win Back Tickets for Senators Defeated in Primaries

Akpabio Pledges to Win Back Tickets for Senators Defeated in Primaries — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Senate President Godswill Akpabio says the red chamber is working to secure election tickets for around 40 incumbent senators who lost their party primaries ahead of the 2027 polls. He expressed surprise at the high number of defeats across major parties and congratulated those who retained their mandates while emphasising democracy’s greater victory. He named lawmakers such as Ned Nwoko, Gbenga Daniel, Danjuma Goje and Rufai Hanga among those who missed out on return tickets. Akpabio assured that Senate leadership will strive to minimise disappointments and support colleagues across party lines in advance. He also condemned the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State as an assault on collective humanity. He warned politicians against exploiting tragedy for partisan gain and urged backing for measures to strengthen security, protect schools and hold perpetrators to account.
