Members of the APC in Ikwuano/Umuahia have formally asked the party’s National Screening Committee to disqualify Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji from the upcoming House of Representatives primary. The petition, filed at the National Secretariat in Abuja on May 8, 2026, highlights his ongoing 16-count EFCC trial for allegedly misappropriating ₦60.85 billion. It also references a court-ordered forfeiture of over ₦228.4 million and active ICPC investigations into his tenure as Speaker of the Abia House of Assembly. Lead counsel for the petitioners warned that nominating a candidate under such legal cloud could cost the party its mandate if he is convicted. They have urged the committee to demand his bail order and ICPC clearance at the screening interview. The APC will finish screening House aspirants by May 12, with results due on May 13. Petitioners plan to appeal to the Screening Appeal Committee or the Federal High Court if their disqualification request is rejected.
