Trump Authorises Removal of Naval Blockade After US-Iran Peace Deal

Trump Authorises Removal of Naval Blockade After US-Iran Peace Deal

Former US President Donald Trump announced on his social network that the agreement with Iran is complete. He said he “fully authorises the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz” and the immediate removal of the US naval blockade. Pakistan’s Prime Minister confirmed the deal is in place. He tweeted that both the US and Iran have agreed to an immediate, permanent halt to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon. He thanked Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey for their roles and said a signing ceremony will be held on June 19 in Switzerland. Critics point out the move centres on oil flow through the strategic waterway. “Ships of the world, start your engines,” Trump added, urging a quick restart of exports.

It's interesting how a single social media post is used to revoke a naval blockade that took real planning and coordination.

I'm not convinced this announcement signals lasting peace rather than another political headline to sway public opinion.

Officials and shipping firms should update their risk assessments and insurance policies before relying on the Strait of Hormuz reopening.
