Akpabio Calls ADC “Dead” as Lawmakers Defect to NDC and Labour Party
Senate President Godswill Akpabio quipped that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was “dead” after a fresh wave of defections saw senators and representatives join the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) and Labour Party. Presiding over Tuesday’s plenary, Akpabio joked about senators defecting multiple times in a month and suggested compiling all defection notices in one list rather than announcing them individually on the floor. The announcements included Victor Umeh’s move to the NDC, citing internal divisions and ongoing litigation within the ADC. Akpabio also read a letter from Enyinnaya Abaribe, noting his journey from APGA to ADC and now to the Labour Party. This follows a similar mass departure in the House of Representatives, where at least 17 members left the ADC for other parties.
