Data Reveals Only 1% of Nigerians Are Ready to Relocate Now
I gathered real numbers from over 400 Nigerians on visa costs, rent, flights, proof of funds and exchange rates. The average Japa Readiness Score is just 42 out of 100. Only 1% can afford their target country today. Over half were advised that staying in Nigeria makes more financial sense. Remote work paid in foreign currency also often beats relocating. Top destinations are the UK (38%), Canada (23%), France (15%), the US (11%) and Germany (5%). A Lagos nurse earning ₦600K scored 4.2 for Canada and would need double her salary to avoid going broke. A software developer on ₦3.5M scored 7 for Canada but 9 for remote work. I built the tool that produced these scores: Japa Score (afford to move), Stay Score (cost of staying) and Remote Score (earn abroad, live locally). My question: Is japa worth it for most Nigerians, or are we chasing dreams we can’t finance?
