Lawyer Demands Mandatory Legal Training for SCID DCP, Denies Leaking Probe File

Adedotun Ajulo, counsel to Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi, has urged that officers appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Police at Lagos State’s SCID, Panti, undergo compulsory legal training. He says the role requires a strong grasp of criminal procedure, constitutional law, evidence rules and fair hearing principles. Ajulo made the call in response to a police statement accusing him of leaking a classified investigation file. He described the allegation as spurious and baseless, insisting he has acted in full compliance with the Constitution and professional conduct rules. He also highlighted his client’s alleged degrading treatment in custody and the refusal to release certified case documents. Ajulo is calling for an independent probe by the Police Service Commission into how sensitive files surfaced in the media. The lawyer argues that mandatory legal education for senior investigators would strengthen prosecutions, reduce civil liability against the force and boost public trust in Nigeria’s criminal justice system.
