A Cautionary Letter to VDM: Balancing Activism with Wisdom
Dear VeryDarkMan, You have shown rare courage by speaking truth in a country where many fear to offend powerful interests. You exposed scams, called out injustice, and gave voice to ordinary Nigerians. But history warns that confronting the system often comes at a heavy price. Fela Kuti faced arrests and violence. Ken Saro-Wiwa and the Ogoni activists paid with their lives. Dele Giwa lost his life to a parcel bomb. Abroad, Malcolm X, Thomas Sankara, and Patrice Lumumba suffered similar fates. Criticism is vital in a democracy, yet social media can feed grandiosity. Sharing an unverified audio about a sitting president demands clear accountability. Rights come with responsibility. I do not defend the current administration, but I urge wisdom and caution. The government wields institutional power and patience. Sometimes the greatest victory lies in knowing when to speak and when to pause. Nigeria needs strong voices, not more silenced ones.
