Who Are Nigeria’s Cabals? Tribal Power, Elections and a Path to Real Change
The question of who really holds power in Nigeria often leads to talk of the “cabal.” After a former president’s wife claimed this group seized authority, many asked: who are these cabals and what do they want? Some point to the lasting influence of one tribe. Despite only taking vice-presidential slots, they have never lost at the national level since Obasanjo’s era. Politicians from other regions often choose running mates from this group to win votes, using religion and language to divide us while they profit. Our security challenges remain. Bandits and terrorists roam with impunity. Until Nigerians recognise this power dynamic and vote beyond religious and tribal lines, we risk staying trapped in the same cycle.
