Ghana’s Black Stars fell 2-0 to Mexico in an international friendly in Puebla last Friday, conceding once in each half. This defeat marks their third straight loss after friendlies against Austria and Germany. Coach Desmond Ofei fielded Benjamin Asare in goal, marshalled by a back four of Jan Kwasi Gyamerah, Nathaniel Adjei, Oscar Oppong and Terry Yegbe. Midfielders Majeed Ashimeru, Emmanuel Agyei, Ibrahim Osman and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi supported a front two of Daniel Agyei and Felix Afena-Gyan in a 4-4-2 formation. Brian Gutiérrez opened the scoring inside two minutes, and Guillermo Martínez doubled Mexico’s lead in the 54th minute. Multiple substitutions in the second half could not turn the tide for Ghana. The team now shifts focus to a friendly against Wales in Cardiff on June 2 ahead of final squad selection for the 2026 World Cup. Drawn in Group L, Ghana will face Panama, Croatia and England next year.
