From Abandoned Draft to Rom-Com: Uzoamaka Power’s Call of My Life Hits Cinemas May 15
In 2018, Uzoamaka Power wrote just three pages about her time as a call-centre agent. She saved the Word document and walked away, never imagining it would become a film. Eight years later, producer Blessing Uzzi unearthed that old draft and convinced Uzoamaka to revisit it. The result is Call of My Life, a romantic comedy about Soluchi, a woman nursing old heartbreak when a single phone call sends her toward something new. Uzoamaka stars as Soluchi in the movie, which premieres in cinemas on May 15. Reworking the script meant asking fresh questions: Is the call centre at the centre of this story? What if Soluchi’s life outside work took the lead? For Uzoamaka, her real-life moments were raw material—foundations on which to build a more honest love story. Uzoamaka isn’t hiding her excitement. She plans to watch the film in every Lagos cinema she can reach. After turning a few pages into a full feature, she’s proof that loving too much can be a superpower.
