Lai Mohammed Blames Fake News for EndSARS Violence at LSE Forum

Lai Mohammed Blames Fake News for EndSARS Violence at LSE Forum

Alhaji Lai Mohammed told a London School of Economics forum that the EndSARS protests were not a failure of government communication but a product of fake news and deliberate misinformation. He argued unverified reports and doctored footage, especially after troops were sent to Lekki Toll Gate, fuelled violence and shaped a misleading global narrative. He singled out some international outlets for amplifying these errors. Mohammed also highlighted his tenure’s communication successes during the COVID-19 response and Boko Haram insurgency. He pointed to daily briefings, a major media tour of liberated areas, the Twitter suspension to curb incitement, and nationwide town hall meetings as key strategies. His appearance concluded a three-day UK speaking tour promoting his new book on media moments from 2015 to 2023.

Seems like shifting blame onto fake news oversimplifies the issue and lets real accountability waka commot.

Journalists and citizens should cross-check sources before sharing footage to avoid fueling misinformation around sensitive protests.
