Farouk Lawan Eyes 2027 Comeback in House of Reps After Prison
Former House of Representatives member Farouk Lawan is preparing for a political return ahead of the 2027 general elections. He regained his civil and political rights after serving a conviction for bribery and receiving a presidential pardon. Lawan, who once represented Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency in Kano, successfully passed the APC screening and emerged as the preferred candidate of party stakeholders in Bagwai and Shanono local government areas. His renewed ambition follows a decade-long legal battle over his role in the 2012 fuel subsidy probe. As committee chair, he was accused of demanding a $3 million bribe from businessman Femi Otedola. Lawan served a five-year jail term before clemency was granted in October 2025.
