NAFDAC Destroys Over N939m of Substandard Drugs in Anambra
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed fake and substandard products worth more than N939 million in Awka, Anambra State. The exercise took place on Friday at the state waste management dumpsite. Officials recovered expired medicines, unwholesome food items, falsified cosmetics and medical equipment from across the South-East. Regional Director Martins Iluyomade said these items were seized through routine surveillance, enforcement operations and intelligence-led interventions. Director-General Mojisola Adeyeye reaffirmed NAFDAC’s zero-tolerance stance against anyone endangering public health. Stakeholders, including members of the National Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers, handed in some products voluntarily. The agency urged consumers to buy only items with valid registration numbers and report any suspicious goods. (Source: NAN)
