Tinubu Hails Nigerian Navy’s Crackdown on Piracy for Saving Billions

Tinubu Hails Nigerian Navy’s Crackdown on Piracy for Saving Billions

President Bola Tinubu praised the Nigerian Navy’s sustained fight against piracy, crude oil theft and maritime crime during the 2026 International Fleet Review in Lagos. He said these operations have boosted oil production, increased government revenue and strengthened investor confidence. The President also commissioned three new vessels: NNS Oloibiri, NNS Mambila and NNS Gurara. Tinubu highlighted the Navy’s integration of surveillance systems, rapid-response teams and enforcement operations. He noted these measures have largely eradicated piracy and curbed oil theft in Nigeria’s waters. The Chief of the Naval Staff confirmed that government support and strategic investments have driven recent gains. He pledged continued focus on technology, training and partnerships to protect the Gulf of Guinea and littoral communities.
