Ex-Governor El-Rufai’s Doctor Charged Over Alleged Fake Medical Report

Ex-Governor El-Rufai’s Doctor Charged Over Alleged Fake Medical Report

Dr Bello Abubakar, personal physician to former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, has been referred to the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) and arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). The anti-graft agency confirmed a medical report presented to secure El-Rufai’s court-approved visit was fake after verification by several doctors at home and abroad. ICPC then filed a four-count charge against Abubakar, accusing him of issuing false information and abusing his position. Counts include misleading a public officer, conferring unfair advantage, fabricating a joint intent to deceive, and dishonestly making a document with false hospital authority. The National Hospital’s Chief Medical Director is set to testify that the report was neither authorised nor based on a proper medical examination. Abubakar remains attached to the National Hospital, Abuja, as Chief Consultant Radiation Oncologist on contract pending the outcome of disciplinary and legal proceedings.

True talk! Regular ethics reviews and transparent reporting can really keep doctors honest around big political figures.

It's striking that a personal doctor could be arraigned by the ICPC for a fake medical report.

Lawmakers might consider clear rules on reporting medical findings and swift disciplinary action for misleading doctors.
