Keir Starmer to Resign as Labour Party Leader

Sir Keir Starmer will stay on as prime minister until his successor is chosen. He says he accepts his party’s view that new leadership is needed ahead of the next general election. He has asked the National Executive Committee to draw up a nominations timetable. The contest will open on 9 July and close before the summer recess.
