Federal Workers Reject N100k Wage Proposal, Threaten Indefinite Strike Over Hardship
The Federal Workers Forum has slammed the N100,000 minimum wage proposal as a ‘Greek gift’ and urged authorities to negotiate a rate that matches soaring living costs. In a communiqué, the forum highlighted unpaid arrears, low purchasing power and rising insecurity. It said the current N70,000 wage has failed to protect workers from inflation, subsidy removal and currency devaluation. The forum called on the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress to launch an indefinite nationwide strike. It also demanded the immediate payment of all outstanding entitlements and a cost-of-living allowance, giving the government 30 days to act before protests begin.
