NIMASA Sensitises Lagos Riverine Communities on Stowaway Risks
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency has taken its anti-stowaway campaign into Lagos riverine settlements, beginning with Snake Island. Agency representatives met local leaders, youths and residents to discuss the dangers and legal penalties of boarding vessels illegally. The outreach forms part of a sustained grassroots drive to curb stowaway incidents through public awareness and education. Residents described the campaign as timely and informative. Officials highlighted the threat such incidents pose to Nigeria’s reputation in the global maritime industry. They reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to ongoing community engagement to discourage risky behaviour.
