Tracing Enochian Echoes in Timbuktu and Nri Rituals
This study surveys parallels between the ancient Book of Enoch, a 14th-century Timbuktu manuscript, and precolonial Igbo Ukwu and Nri rituals. It notes shared elements like antimony eye-paint, mountain descent myths, and flood motifs. The analysis highlights Enoch’s “Watchers” on Mount Hermon and an Nri song of beings descending at “God’s Hill.” It also compares root-cutting teachings of Semjaza with the role of Agbala Dibia and matches watchful deities across cultures. Additional notes examine burial practices at Igbo Ukwu, flood traditions, and the use of coronation pigments by the Eze Nri. Luke chapters 2–5 (KJV) are appended to illustrate Christian parallels. All sources are cited generically. This work documents parallels only, without claims of direct descent or borrowing.
