UN Deputy Secretary-General Lauds Zamfara Governor’s ‘Zamfara Rising’ Blueprint
The United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Hajiya Amina Mohammed, paid a landmark visit to Governor Dauda Lawal in Gusau, Zamfara State. She reviewed his administration’s development blueprint and toured key infrastructure projects. It was the highest-level UN visit to the region in nearly a decade. In closed-door talks at Government House, the UN official praised tangible reforms. She highlighted new roads, digitized revenue systems, and strengthened civil service as signs of renewed investor confidence and stability. Governor Lawal presented the 97-page “Zamfara Rising” plan built on four pillars: security and rule of law; economic revival in agriculture and mining; human capital development through schools and health centres; and expanded infrastructure and digital access. He described it as a covenant with the people and an open invitation to global partners. The Deputy Secretary-General announced that a UN technical team will arrive in Gusau within 30 days to align the state’s plan with the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. She also hinted at a possible high-level donors’ conference for Zamfara in 2026, with backing from major development banks.
