Hamzat Calls for Greater Investment in Lagos Health Workers

Lagos Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat says sustained investment in doctors, nurses and other frontline workers is essential to meeting the healthcare needs of the state’s growing population. Speaking at the 2026 Eko Health Convention, Hamzat said healthcare improvement must go beyond modern facilities and technology. He called for better training, equipment, motivation and strategic partnerships to strengthen service delivery. He said the expansion of Maternal and Child Care Centres is helping to bring specialised services closer to communities, reduce pressure on tertiary hospitals and improve outcomes for women and children. Hamzat added that decentralising services can help government respond faster to local needs and track maternal mortality more effectively. He also praised health workers for their role during the COVID-19 pandemic and urged continued collaboration between government, private providers and development partners.
