Court Remands Ekiti LG Vice Chairman Accused of Orchestrating Own Kidnap
The Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of Mrs. Grace Ogunleye, Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government, over allegations that she staged her own abduction. Mrs. Ogunleye was reported missing on May 20 after her vehicle was found abandoned along the Ipere-Iludun Ekiti Road. A coordinated search by police, military and local security operatives led to her rescue the next day. Subsequent investigations suggest she fabricated the incident to raise money for personal and political debts. During her arraignment on June 3, the court directed that she be held at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre pending transfer of the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice. The council chairman condemned the alleged plot, warning that no public official is above the law.
