ADC Ward Congresses Proceed in Adamawa Despite Binani Faction’s Challenge

ADC Ward Congresses Proceed in Adamawa Despite Binani Faction’s Challenge

Adamawa’s African Democratic Congress went ahead with its unit, ward and local government congresses on April 9, 2026. The exercise took place amid court challenges and heated accusations of a leadership hijack. A faction loyal to Senator Aishatu Binani has contested the process in court. It accuses former SGF Babachir Lawal of orchestrating a takeover of party structures. Despite the legal battle, state leadership under Sadiq Ibrahim Dasin insisted the congresses would run as planned. In a statement, media head Martins Yanatham Dickson urged all registered members to mobilise across the state’s 226 wards. Senator Elisha Ishaku Abbo has since blamed both Lawal and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for deepening divisions within the party. The Independent National Electoral Commission also plans to remove Senator David Mark and former Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola from its portal, citing the ongoing leadership dispute.

Given the Binani faction's court challenge, how might this internal dispute affect ADC's local grassroots engagement in Adamawa?

I agree, this court dispute can divert attention from outreach efforts, reducing momentum at the ward level.

I'm not sure such a court spat will really shake up the local party supporters that much.

It's notable that the congresses went ahead amid legal hitches and accusations of hijacking the leadership process.

I dey wonder why so much legal drama distracts from real issues at the grassroots level in Adamawa politics.

Local party members should document the proceedings thoroughly and seek mediation channels to ensure transparency and ward-level accountability.
