Dino Melaye Slams INEC’s “Jankara Interpretation” in David Mark’s ADC Chair Removal
Former Kogi West senator Dino Melaye has criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission for its decision to delist David Mark as chairman of the African Democratic Congress. He described INEC’s move as a deliberate misreading of the law to undermine the party’s ongoing congresses and primaries. Speaking on a national television programme, Melaye said the commission’s action lacked merit and insulted Nigerians. He revealed that the ADC has already begun legal proceedings to challenge INEC’s decision and may pursue criminal charges against the electoral body for disobeying a court order. He also accused INEC of bias, arguing that the commission had sided with a former party official. Melaye insisted that the people own the government and pledged that the ADC would contest the upcoming election and defeat the incumbent candidate on May 29. INEC announced it would cease recognising both rival ADC factions after reviewing an appeal court judgment. The leadership dispute began when the party’s national working committee resigned in mid-2025, leading to a court contest between David Mark and factional leader Rafiu Bala.
