The High Price of Distraction: Stay Focused on Your Race

When distractions arise, they can cost more than we imagine. In Indianapolis in 1987, world record holder Eamon Coughlan fell during a qualifying heat. He recovered, caught the leaders, and was in a qualifying position with just yards to go. One glance behind cost him the finish. Hebrews 12:1-2 teaches us to “lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us” and to “run with endurance the race set before us.” A legitimate weight can slow you down, but a known sin can end your race. Fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Don’t let momentary distractions steal your victory—run your race to the very end.
