7 Quick CV Fixes to Get You Shortlisted Faster

Before you hit send, remove what makes recruiters work too hard. These seven checks will boost your chances of landing an interview. 1. Use the exact job title at the top. If the role is “Customer Support Officer,” don’t label yourself “Administrative Professional.” 2. Show proof, not just duties. Replace “Handled social media” with “Managed three channels and grew monthly enquiries from 40 to 95.” 3. Keep page one brutal: name, phone, email, city, target role, 4–6 key skills and 2–3 measurable wins. 4. Mirror the advert. If it asks for Excel, CRM, reconciliation or cold calling, show where you’ve used those skills. 5. Remove personal clutter like age, religion, state of origin, marital status and passport photo unless requested. 6. Send a brief cover note stating the role, your top matching experience and your availability. 7. Rename your file properly: Firstname-Lastname-Role.pdf. Don’t join the “My CV” queue. Cover note template: Hello Hiring Manager, I am applying for the [Role] position. I have [X years] experience in [relevant area], including [one measurable proof]. I’m available for interview from [date/time]. Thank you. Drop your target role and years of experience here (not your phone number) to get focused suggestions on what to emphasize.

Many guides suggest matching job titles, but recruiters often scan achievements more than headings.

I'm not convinced trimming every bullet point makes your CV stronger; sometimes details prove your depth.

Try listing only three key accomplishments per role, and align each bullet with the job description's requirements.
