1 / 2

The organisers of the prestigious Okpekpe International 10km Road Race have moved this year’s event from May 23 to May 30, 2026. The extra week will allow for expanded medical coverage, stronger security deployment and improved spectator facilities. Race Director Zack Amodu said the change is a proactive measure to guarantee the comfort and safety of athletes and fans. He also highlighted that the race’s medical director recently completed World Athletics certification in Madrid, making Okpekpe the first Nigerian event with a certified medical director. As a World Athletics Gold Label race, Okpekpe has become one of Africa’s premier 10km events. Organisers stress that the postponement is aimed at elevating standards and delivering a truly world-class experience.
