Unilorin SSANU & NASU Launch Indefinite Strike, Demand 45% Salary Hike
University of Ilorin activities have been halted as SSANU and NASU members began an indefinite strike. Staff staged a peaceful protest at the main gate with placards demanding fair wages and a 45% salary increase instead of the proposed 30%. SSANU Chairman Prof. Falowo Olushola said the action follows missed deadlines on renegotiating the 2009 agreement. He noted the unions issued ultimatums in December and March but saw no progress from the Federal Government. NASU Chairman Suberu Ibrahim added that non-academic workers have carried the administrative load since 2017 yet remain sidelined. He urged that pay backlogs dating to 2022 be cleared and that any approved increment take effect from January, warning the strike will persist until demands are met.
