Remembering Goodluck Jonathan’s Leadership and Legacy
I truly admire Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure given the challenges we face today. His honesty and dedication stood out at a time when Nigerians needed stable leadership. I recall earning my first salary as a field maintenance engineer in 2012—₦85,000 a month. Life felt more secure and hopeful under his administration. Looking at Nigeria’s minimum wage progression, you see the impact of different administrations. Under Olusegun Obasanjo it went from ₦5,500 in 2000 to ₦7,500 in 2004. Jonathan’s era brought it to ₦18,000 in 2011. Despite a higher nominal rate today, exchange rates have weakened real purchasing power. I often wish we could return to those better days.
