Bad Bunny Seeks $456K from Mr Eazi’s emPawa Africa After Lawsuit Collapse

Bad Bunny Seeks $456K from Mr Eazi’s emPawa Africa After Lawsuit Collapse — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Bad Bunny’s legal team has filed a federal court request for $456,312 in fees from emPawa Africa. The move follows the dismissal of a copyright suit brought by Nigerian producer Dera over an alleged uncleared sample. The dispute centered on the track “Enséñame a Bailar,” which was claimed to sample Dera’s 2019 song “Empty My Pocket.” emPawa Africa was initially joined as co-plaintiff after Mr Eazi publicly supported Dera’s claims. The case fell apart this year when Dera’s lawyers withdrew over strategic disagreements. emPawa was dropped for missed deadlines, and Dera himself abandoned the suit, leading Judge Otis Wright to dismiss the action entirely. Bad Bunny’s team argues the sample was cleared through a distributor, while Dera contends clearance was never authorised. Now emPawa Africa faces a hefty fee demand after a case that started with bold accusations ended in dismissal.

Is it fair to paint Bad Bunny's fee request as greedy before we know if those legal rates are standard practice?
