FG Issues Roadmap for Transition to 2026 Tax Regime
The Federal Government has released guidelines to guide the shift from repealed tax laws to the new Tax Acts 2025 framework that took full effect on January 1, 2026. The document clarifies that any liabilities, audits, investigations or disputes covering periods before the new law’s commencement will still follow the old tax system. Returns for accounting periods ending before January 2026 will be filed under the previous regime, while those due from that date onward will comply with the new framework. It also outlines how income taxes, transaction levies, development charges, incentives and exemptions granted under the old laws will be treated. Existing reliefs remain valid until expiry, and new requests will be assessed under the Tax Acts 2025 provisions. According to the Finance Minister, the guidelines rest on principles of clarity, fairness and administrative certainty. They aim to ensure a uniform, transparent and efficient tax system that supports economic growth and voluntary compliance nationwide.
