Autopsy Reveals Drug-Induced Cause of Destiny Boy’s Death — 1 of 2
1 / 2

An official autopsy has confirmed that late singer Afeez Adesina, known as Destiny Boy, died from aspiration pneumonitis after ingesting harmful levels of tramadol and methamphetamine. The Police Homicide Section released the report, which identifies toxic substances as the fatal factors. Following widespread speculation, family members had said the artist battled a long-term illness despite seeking both medical and traditional treatments. His mother publicly acknowledged their efforts to manage his condition before his sudden death on January 18, 2026. The Ogun State Police Command has handed the case to its Criminal Investigation Department for deeper probes. Fellow artist Portable blamed bloggers for contributing to Destiny Boy’s struggles, while others questioned the support the singer received during his career. Destiny Boy rose to fame with his 2019 Fuji cover of “If” and released several tracks including “Lamba” and “Billion Dollar.” He and his partner welcomed their first child in November 2024. His passing follows a string of recent losses in Nigeria’s music and gospel community.

It's concerning that tramadol and methamphetamine were both detected, but this doesn't fully explain how such potent levels remained unnoticed.

I'm not convinced the autopsy report tells the whole story, maybe there's more context behind his substance use or other factors.

Music venues and event coordinators should provide access to medical support and wellness resources for performers to catch early warning signs.
