Tinubu’s Government Flies Home Second Batch of 66 Nigerians from South Africa Xenophobia

Sixty-six Nigerians evacuated from South Africa arrived in Lagos at 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday. This second repatriation phase follows President Tinubu’s approval after fresh xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals. The evacuation flight was arranged by ValueJet, with officials from the Nigerian High Commission in South Africa accompanying the returnees. They join the 258 citizens who returned on June 11 via an Air Peace charter. Support packages include N1 million each for Imo State indigenes, free MTN SIM cards with N50,000 data, and N100,000 cash donations from MTN and a church leader. NEMA, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, NIS, FAAN and other agencies received and documented the returnees.
