Ebonyi Labour Party Rejects Leaders Accused of Secret Presidential Ticket Plot
A crisis has erupted in the Labour Party’s Ebonyi State chapter over allegations that senior figures tried to negotiate a presidential ticket without grassroots approval. The State Executive Council has condemned former candidates Dr Emmanuel Ezeh, Splendour Eze, state chairman Chief Henry Ude (Ajimbest), and Chief Mitchell Nwede for unauthorized deals. In a communiqué signed by State Secretary Innocent Igiri and zonal executives, the party accused these leaders of sidelining members and taking critical decisions in Abuja without state-level consultation. It warned that Ebonyi LP “is not a private property” and no one may transact on behalf of the party without engaging the state structure. Executives raised concerns over the emergence of Samuel Chibuzor Nwigwe, described as an APC stalwart allegedly introduced by Splendour Eze, and criticized the direct purchase of a N50 million presidential nomination form without prior consultation. They stressed that such “smart moves” threaten the sacrifices grassroots members made since the 2023 elections. The statement urged national leaders, including Alex Otti and Esther Nenadi Usman, to resist any imposed decisions on Ebonyi LP and insisted that every aspirant must carry along the state structure before making political declarations or financial commitments.
