Enugu Unveils New DNA Forensics Centre to Strengthen Crime Investigation
Governor Peter Mbah has commissioned the Centre for DNA Forensics and Criminal Investigation at Godfrey Okoye University in Enugu. He warned criminals that the state now has the tools to track every trace they leave behind. The centre is a partnership between Enugu State Government, Godfrey Okoye University and the Nigeria DNA Learning Centre. It will support the police, prosecutors and courts with scientific evidence and specialised training. Attorney General Prince Lateef Fagbemi and Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu praised the facility as a major boost to Nigeria’s justice system. They said it will aid investigations into crimes like homicide, kidnapping and human trafficking. The centre is open to agencies and governments beyond Enugu. Governor Mbah said it marks a shift from suspicion to science in criminal investigations.
