How Bisola Akeju Led USAID’s Multi-City Cybersecurity Training for 250 Partner Staff
A recent multi-city training campaign led by Computer Management Specialist Bisola Akeju at the USAID mission in Nigeria has successfully trained its 250th partner staff member. The programme ran back-to-back cohorts in Enugu, Kano and Ibadan, bringing technical and administrative teams from about twenty civil society organisations and development partners up to speed on cybersecurity practices. Participants learned about cybersecurity awareness, application security hygiene, the agency’s GLAAS procurement system and internal collaboration tools. The campaign’s geographic spread mirrors the reach of USAID’s major programmes in health, agriculture, governance, education and economic growth across Nigeria. Cyber threats such as phishing, business email compromise and ransomware have steadily risen in donor-funded environments. By equipping partner organisations with cybersecurity expertise rather than concentrating skills in Abuja, the training expands Nigeria’s pool of digital security professionals at the community level. USAID plans to roll out more cohorts in the next financial cycle, adapting content for new partner-facing systems and tighter federal compliance requirements. For many Nigerian NGOs, in-house technology specialists are now essential to safe, effective programme delivery.
