From Hospital Wards to Global Runways: How I Juggle Pharmacy, Motherhood and a Luxury Shoe Label
Asma’u Ardo Haliru combines her role as a UK hospital pharmacist with building ASMAU ARDO Tres Chic Shoes, her five-year-old luxury footwear label. Each day she balances patient care, motherhood and designing high-end shoes that have graced London Fashion Week and Paris Modest Fashion Week. Her journey started by reselling European luxury brands online, but she soon sought to make handcrafted Italian footwear more accessible. During maternity leave and the COVID-19 lockdown, she researched artisans in Italy and launched a capsule collection of 12 designs. Managing international production and shipping to Nigeria has been challenging, with delays testing her patience. She overcame these hurdles by adjusting timelines and partnering with local stockists to ensure timely access for her customers. Looking ahead, she plans to place her designs in major department stores and open flagship outlets in Lagos, Abuja and the UK. For Asma’u, true luxury lies in the details — Italian leather, signature gems and timeless design that speak for themselves.
